We are the Dino Dogs!

Mummy is getting a tad bored of our boring grey wall and how it’s showing in our photos. To spruce our shots up, she decided to get crafty! #wethinkshehastoomuchtimeonherhands A quick trip to Art Friend and she was ready to get crafting. #wecanhelpbutyoumustpayintreats #mummycannotsaynotothesefacesone A couple of hours in… and wala~ #howcomeitlookslikeprimaryschoolkidswork To be honest, while Mummy is quite fond of scrapbooking and stuff, she really isn’t the most artistic person around.  #notevenclosecan So to be safe, she got tree and cloud templates off the internet. And since our printer is kaput, she had to use baking sheet to trace them out before drawing them onto coloured paper. #cheapoislikethatone #havetoimprovise Presenting our new backdrop! Mummy’s tip: Use Blue-tac to secure the items to the background. This will allow you to shift the trees and clouds around as you deem fit. Plus, you can reuse the background for the next project. #mummycheaposodon’twantotstickitdown #mustreuseandsavemoneyma Looks pretty good right? Of course our mummy isn’t that creative to come up with this from scratch.  That’s what Pinterest is for! …

Freezy Pups!

Auntie Charmaine went on a holiday to Hong Kong and came back with a gift just for Pecan ah ma and myself! THANK YOU AUNTIE CHAR! We were super excited when we got our paws on it!  It’s Freezy Pups! She’s really generous as well. She could’ve just gotten us the tray and the four sample packs. But she was such a darling and actually bought us not one, not two, but FOUR boxes of refill packs. *Wriggly dance* I HEART YOU MY MIL. Oh, ah ma says she loves you too. Happy dogs waiting for yummy and cooling treats! We were spoilt for choice as the starter kit came with four different flavors! Picking one wasn’t difficult. I simply chose my favorite color – Orange (chicken soup recipe)! It is so fuss-free that we could’ve done it without Mummy!  Simply dissolve the entire packet in hot water and we were done! Of course we needed Mummy’s help to distribute the portions evenly into the tray. And then the horrid news came.  We had to …

My origami pet dogs!

Grandma bought me a really cute book from the kids section of a bookstore – Doggie Divas Origami. Honestly, the cover of the book was too princessy and off-putting that I was a bit like ‘huh’ when I first got it (Mummy agrees). Despite the cover, we were both quite intrigued by the contents as this interesting read actually demonstrates how to fold origami dogs!  It even provides readers with pattern paper to fold specific dog breeds. There is also a sheet of stickers for you to customise your canines. Hee, you can choose eye colours for them! Mummy told me that I get to keep whatever I manage to fold as my pets. Hence, I was really excited and started examining the instructions right away.  I attempted to make myself a Schnauzer. Despite my nimble paws, my first try was a total flop.  My Schnauzer looked more like an elephant.  Boohoo~  Seeing how upset I was, Mummy stepped in and helped. And I did my part as the crafting duo by providing eye support.  …

Architecture For Sam…

Mummy discovered a website, Architecture for Dogs and fell head over heels with the many pieces of functional (or not) furniture designed by world class architects and designers. This community of dog-lovers selflessly shares their stylish designs with the world by uploading their blueprints, together with instructional videos, to encourage canine lovers everywhere around the globe to get down and start building these pieces for their dogs at home! Even better is the fact that many of the designs are breed-specific, depending on the dog the designers owns. And with a stroke of luck, Torafu Architects designed for Jack Russell Terriers, like myself!  *Wriggly dance* Introducing the Wanmock! (Source: Architecture for Dogs) Here’s how the blueprint looks like. There are actually two ways to assemble a Wanmock and mummy chose the hassle-free option where all pieces are cut to precision and all that is needed during assembly is to slot them together. Yes, in case you are wondering, not a single nail was needed, let alone a drill!  (Source: Architecture for Dogs) Unfortunately for us, we …

Crafting duo strikes again – Paw Print Keepsake

Wtith the haze situation deteriorating, I was stuck indoors all day (Limited to quickie walks lasting no more than ten minutes, a far cry from my usual routine).  Besides too many games of fetch, there was nothing much to do. I was almost dying of boredom. So I approached Mummy and asked that the crafting duo do something fun.  Mummy: “What shall we do then?” Sam: “Let’s do something with.. my paw!” Coincidentally, mummy bought a Sculpey Keepsake Deluxe Pawprint Kit from Art Friend a couple of days ago! Time to put it into good use! The kit comes with clay, a ring (for the shape and size), a small rolling pin, a detail tool and a ribbon. The clay is only sufficient for one application, but mummy says that we could always get more clay from Art Friend. Let’s see how this goes before we decide if we are gonna do it once more. Let’s get the ball rolling! To minimize mess and to keep the project within my reach, mummy decided to do it on …

Crafting duo presents….

the simplest project EVER. All you need is an old shirt.  (Hee, yes, you saw it right, it’s a A&F!) As usual, I had to test the fabric before we can begin.  Once again, I approve. Curious about what the project is about?  Pity the shirt didn’t fit, else it would have looked great on me.  And nope, it wasn’t a shirt for me… Hope you guessed it right, and yes, it’s an upcycled dog collar! All mummy did  was to use a pinking shears and cut the collar out. It took no more than a minute and the project was completed! I swear I could have done it if I had thumbs! Easy breezy… Awesome isn’t it? Check out the handsome boy and his new collar!  Loving it.  Hee, I feel like a grown up wearing it!  Mummy felt that the collar was a tad bit big for me while Daddy thought it was okay. After all, the shirt collar is 15.5″ but my neck is only 12″..oops, now you know my waistline too.  …

My demanding mummy…

Mummy fell in love with this homemade Modern Geomatric DogHouse. (source: Home Made Modern) Being the unreasonable person she always is, she decided to request this as her birthday present. I accidentally chanced upon the email she sent daddy. Demanding Mummy.   Poor Daddy. But again, who cares.. since I stand to benefit! =D

Made with Love…Frozen Chicken Pops!

After residing in the little red dot for the past 3.5months, I think I’m doing relatively well. I’ve mastered my singlish, made a pawful of doggy friends and visited a good number of dog friendly places. While I’m beginning to consider myself Singaporean, the only one thing that constantly bugs me (and I just cannot get over it) is…the weather.  Yes, the horrid warm warm WARM weather.  Summers in NYC, while warm (perhaps even warmer) were bearable as the humidity was low. Besides, summers last no more than three to four months. Before we even knew it, it was over. Unfortunately for me, both me and the heat are here to stay (Noooooooooo~) and I’ve to learn to cope with it.  My solution?  I lie around the house like a dead dog.  Sad huh? Mummy was browsing through the “You bake ’em dog biscuits cookbook” when she suddenly got excited.  I dragged myself out of my bed to check out what’s causing her excitement. She showed me a recipe she chanced upon and thought that …

My Customized-customized Tote Bag…

Besides customizing our family silhouette pillow from Le Papier Studio, mummy customized another keepsake – a tote bag, using just my silhouette. The artist was really professional and sent a couple of drafts for vetting before sending the final silhouette to be printed.  Check out my silhouette!  Pretty close, ey? Hee, that’s my trademark tail! Though there were a couple of hiccups with the shipment of the order (apparently, the first shipment got lost!), mummy was really thrilled when she finally received the tote bag.  The silhouette looked great and the material of the tote bag was better than she expected. It was really thick and sturdy, great for putting Sam’s many little doggy things (e.g. wipes, food).  The only problem was… the design was a little boring.  Hence, we decided to add some ‘bling’ to it… Under the magic hands and paws of the crafting duo, we present you with an even more customized tote bag! Overall, I was quite happy with the final product.  My only complaint (which also explained why my face was …

Made with Love – Parsley Fresh Biscuits…

Mummy bought a couple of dog food cookbooks from Amazon a while ago.  On the spur of the moment, she picked out the  “You Bake ’em Dog Biscuits Cookbook” and handed it to me. I quickly glanced through (while drooling) and was in awe of the number of recipes and yummy treats available for dogs.  Spontaneously, mummy asked me to pick one recipe for her to try.  I was a little dubious. I mean, while Mummy has been pretty successful with the home made dog treats attempts, she isn’t exactly a baker (I shall not mention her recent failed attempt at baking macaroons…oops).  For her sake (and mine more importantly), I carefully looked through the cookbook again and selected a relatively easy yet super yummy-sounding recipe – Minty Fresh Biscuits (p.105)!  The recipe is pretty straightforward and the ingredients required are really basic. Besides cookie cutters, all we needed were flour (all-purpose and wheat), an egg, milk, olive oil and parmesan cheese. The recipe called for mint flakes but we decided to replace it with parsley …
