DIY TIME: Pill Pockets

I came down with a small bout of infection on my front paws. (No thanks to my itchy mouth) #cannotstoplicking A quick visit to the worst place on Earth vet and here we are, a grumpy-emo dog who is pouting about the meds he has to eat and a gloating ah ma. #howcomeIneedsomuchmedsone #canPecaneatthemonmybehalf Medication time is a TORTURE. Both to me and Mummy. Mummy: “Come Sam, time for your meds.” Nope. Not happening. At all. #sheiscrazytothinkIwilleatthemedsjustlikethatlor #eventhegreedyahmaalsowon’tfallforit #sheseemenoup There are a few ways to get those disgusting pills down my throat. For the morning dose, Mummy will painstakingly cut the meds into small sizes and hide them in my food. #sometimesIfallforthis #sometimesIdon’t However, I get fed only once a day. Needless to say, the evening dose is wayyy trickier. She will either shove it down (I HATE MUMMY), or dissolve it into a liquid and feed me using a syringe. Either way, it ain’t pretty. #mymummyabuseme #mylifesucks When we were in the States, there was a really easy alternative – Greenies Pill pockets! However, …

DIY time: Dog-friendly Peanut Butter!

Mummy has wayyyy too much time on her hands these days. So, she decided to DIY more items for us! #heywearenotcomplaining Pecan’s wondering what’s on the menu today. #ahmathephotobomber Sniffing out the ingredients as we make a wild guess. #aiyathetitlealreadygivetheanswerawayliao Yaps, we’re making Dog-friendly Peanut Butter today! Yums! Mummy used to give us store-bought peanut butter. However, it can get a bit tricky choosing the right one as many of them contain unhealthy preservatives (especially xylitol) that can be harmful to dogs. So what’s the best solution for someone who has too much time on her hands – DO IT YOURSELF! #ourtummiesagreefully “Can we apply it to our favourite donut toy too?” #pecan’sstupidityisrubbingoffme #thisisaBADsign Mummy found a recipe online and modified it a tad. She added our favourite coconut oil to boost the taste and of course, for added benefits too. #ourtummiesagreeagain The process is as straightforward as it looks.  Simply put all the ingredients in a blender and blend and blend and blend and blend. And Wa-la~ you get yummy peanut butter! Our stupid …

Sam’s Pick – Chew Time

It’s no secret that Jack Russells require a crazy amount tons of stimulation to keep these terrors out of trouble.  That’s pretty accurate for the case of me and Pecan ah ma. #memorethanherofcourse #seeourinnocentface  To keep us out of trouble (well, me mostly), Mummy invested in a huge variety of chews.  From rawhide (yucks, we no like), bully sticks (smelly and yummy), antlers (which was a total fail – it was so hard that I didn’t give a hoot about it), you name it, we probably would have done a taste test on it. #wewonderhowourbelliescantahanalltherubbishmummyfeedsus #nocomplaintsthough #nowonderdaddypocketisquiteempty Honestly, we had way more options when we were still in New York.  Once we moved back, Mummy noticed that it was rather challenging for her to find decent chews for us.  Well, of course until we chanced upon… Chew Time! One first experience was Christmas two years ago when… we won a Chew Time giveaway.  #seehowcheapomummyis Our first taste of Chew Time’s bully sticks. #goneinsixtyseconds #nolarwheregotsofast  Needless to say, we became instant fans of Chew Time! And …

Our ‘Reunion’ Dinner!

Lunar New Year is just around the corner. Unfortunately for us, we won’t be able to tag along for our parents’ reunion dinner. Don’t feel too sorry for us, because Mummy already made up for it! #mummyreallyisdabest To satisfy our little tummies, Mummy went ahead and ordered a Superdog Kitchen’s Chinese New Year special for us! Hehe, of cos we must dress up for the meal – featuring our Monkey Bandanas from Loyal.D! Sniffing and checking out the goodies in store for us. Ta-dah~ it was the Ong-Lai-Loh! Because Mummy’s lousy photography skills cannot do Ong-Lai Loh justice, here’s how gorgeous it really is! In case you’re wondering, it smelt and tasted every bit as good as it looked. In fact, Mummy couldn’t resist and took a slice herself.  Ah ma and myself were seriously concerned that she was gonna finish everything herself. #yalasheisthatgreedy #hengsheleftsomeforus #elsewesureblackfacewholeCNY Photo credit: Superdog Kitchen Waiting to dig in. #thisisclealyatorturousmoment #hurrylehwewannaeatonehor Our hungry and impatient tummies were extremely excited. #diediemustgivemummyaperfectshotelseshewillnotletuseat #ourlivessuck Okay, this isn’t the best shot of me but Mummy …

I turned SIX – my second celebration!

And my celebration continues. This time, with the second most important *cough* lady *cough* in my life. #ohmancannotbelieveIhadtosaythat For starters, we turned up for my party dressed to the nines in our new Crew La La collars. Mummy is damn ridiculous la.  When she was shopping for the collars, she was worried that the bows would get lost in our shaggy coats. Hence she decided to opt for the bigger design. Well done lor.  #nowwelookstupid #thebowisasbigasmyface Oh well, at least you can’t miss it for now. Thankfully, the bows are detachable. #phew For once, Mummy really planned ahead for my birthday this year.  #sheusuallyisverylastminuteone She actually ordered personalised bunting just for us since October last year. #wahsotouchedleh This is from ms.emmeline.pets. So cool right? It’s a pity that the clipart cannot be customised.  But we still adore it! Best of all, it is so re-usable. #bepreparedtoseeitoverandoverandoveragain The cake had to be the highlight of the party and possibly my birthday. Thank you so much Pawoof for accommodating our order! If you thought the cake looked …

Happy 12th Birthday Ah ma!

September 14 2015 was a special day. It was the day that the ancient one (aka Pecan ah ma) turned TWELVE. #omg #whatahugenumber #icanonlycounttoten As usual, birthdays in the Loo Lim Household are a big thing. Well, kinda, only if you’re the beloved furkids. The parents get zilch celebration. #spoiltbrats So, it was party mood all week! Woohoo~ The birthday girl in her bathing suit. #omgagain #oldwomanactyoung It started off with the customary grooming session. #thisonewebothnothappyabout #enoughairtomakeathirddog Photo credit: Wooga This was no usual grooming though.  We actually went for a handstripping session. I’ve been handstripped before and was supposed to be quite accustomed to it.  However, it was Pecan’s virgin handstripping. Hence Mummy was a tad concern that she wouldn’t do well. #sooldstillvirgin #HEHEHEHEHEHE In the end, Pecan did beautifully. Me, on the other hand, cried ‘father and mother’ (even grandmother) when I was being stripped. #asusualsamistherascalofthetwo Mummy was so embarrassed when Auntie Shiting and Auntie Ashley told her that. Oh, in case you’re wondering if it hurts, it really doesn’t. I was just …

Doggie Workout with K9FITbone

A recent visit to the vet confirmed Mummy’s fears… Pecan ah ma’s body isn’t quite keeping up. #sheis12yearsoldnot12monthsoldma  While it isn’t falling apart just yet, her joints are starting to display signs of stiffness. #abouttimela The vet advised Mummy to minimise Pecan’s climbing of stairs and unnecessary jumping. Plus, should she show any signs of tiredness or reluctance to walk when we’re out, we should allow her to rest. #idothatallthetimehowcomemummystillmakemewalk #lifenofair Other than that, we were also sent home with the first of many bottles of glucosamine. To be honest, Pecan is really an energetic ah ma and she is way more active than I am. #iamnotlazy #iamjustchill In addition, Mummy has done a couple of steps to keep her active and healthy. Maintain lean weight –  Checked #hengispecannotme #elseminewilluncheckandiwillbeputonadiet #hengman Swimming – Checked. Despite that, Mummy is still a tad worried that her little body might not keep up with her in future. So, kiasu Mummy started doing some research on how else to strengthen her joints and muscles. And with the recommendation from …

A Fuzzy Sleepover

It’s been a while since we did something fun in our lives. To spice our boring lives up a little, Mummy decided to throw us a sleepover party! Hence, she asked us to invite our friends to join us. But hor, we don’t really have many friends. #nothankstopecan #myfriendsareinNYC #weemocosoursleepoverlookspossiblyboring Oh well, so we decided to make do and invited our three FuzzYard troublemaker friends! Say hi to Electra the Unicorn, Aussie Shoo and Sushi the Fish. Since it’s a party, it was a must to wear hats. #theunicornnohatcosthehorntoohigh We spent our whole evening chilling and chatting about our lives. (Screams: BORING) And that was when we started to hear grumbling sounds coming from our little tummies. Well, I mean a sleepover isn’t really a sleepover without some yummy snacks! Thankfully Mummy was thoughtful enough to prepare some desserts for us. Since Shoo was our guest, we gave him the first sniff. #youbetterdontpooptherelor #elselateryounoheaddontblameme He took a tad longer than we liked, so Pecan ah ma decided to protest. #didntknowhermouthsobigone Mummy allowed us to pick …

Dog-friendly Smoothie

We’re dying from the heat. #whysohot #twodeaddogslyingonthefloor After seeing how lethargic we are, she decided to whip up some smoothie! #mummyisdabest #weapprove #tonguesofapproval Our dog-friendly Mango-Strawberry Smoothie! Here’s what we need: One whole mango (cut into cubes and toss the pit away) A box of strawberry (Freeze it overnight to make the smoothie ice-cold when served) A cup of plain yoghurt One teaspoon of honey (optional, especially if your mango isn’t ripe enough) Did you know? Mangoes are actually good for dogs (source)! But be careful to keep the pit away from us and feed in moderation. #yummyfoodthatisdogfriendlyisdabest What to do: Simply toss everything into a blender and blend blend BLEND. #easybreezy Giving the sniff test. #pecandoesnotcare #shejustwantstodrink #samthefaketastetester Off we went! Yumz! #mustlickeverysingledrop #pecanapprove We absolutely love it.  And unfortunately, so does Mummy #ourmotherstealourfoodagain #ourlifesucks Oh well, at least it did wonders to cool us down in the nasty heat. Hope it does the same for you too!
